During initial power up of the Spectrophotometer, the paddle will

block the Reflectance Port so that the bright illumination from the

Lamp will not be shining into the operator’s eyes. It will stay in this

position until sampling is performed. The mechanism also controls

the illumination time of specimens so that it is illuminated for the

duration of the measurement cycle ( ~ 0.25 sec), and thus minimizes

photochromic effects.
